This chapter discusses the modification of the projection of the AP. The examples in (1) show that modification is only possible with set-denoting adjectives such as aardignice. Since relational adjectives such as houtenwooden, evaluative adjectives such as drommels, and some residuals including modal adjectives such as vermeendalleged are generally not eligible for modification, they will not be discussed in this chapter.

This chapter is organized as follows. Section 25.1 discusses the modification of scalar adjectives, followed by a discussion of the modification of absolute (non-scalar) adjectives in Section 25.2. Section 25.3 discusses the role of the modifiers wel/niet, showing that these elements can be used as degree modifiers in addition to their use as affirmative/negative markers. Section 25.4 continues with a discussion of the modification of pronominalized adjectives. Section 25.5 concludes with a number of special cases of modification of APs.
