The main sources for this chapter are the reference grammars by Haeseryn et al. (1997) and Paardekooper (1986) as well as a series of publications by Norbert Corver on the internal structure of AP: Corver (1990/1994/1997a/1997b). For the morphological restrictions on the formation of synthetic comparatives and superlatives, see De Haas & Trommelen (1993:286ff.), Booij (2002: §2.3.1) and Audring (2020). Important sources for the discussion in Section 26.1.3 on comparative (sub)deletion and the categorial status of the elements als/dan introducing the comparative phrase are Bennis (1977), Den Besten (1978), Hendriks (1991/1995) and Corver (1990/1993); a more detailed discussion of the role of wh-movement in these constructions can be found in Section V11.3.5. Corver (2006) and Corver & Lechner (2017) provide overviews of the syntactic and semantic literature on these issues; they provide an excellent starting point for further investigation.
