1.3.Alternations of noun phrases and PPs

This section discusses verb-frame alternations involving noun phrases and PPs with various syntactic functions. Section 3.3.1 starts with alternations of the type illustrated in the (a)-examples of (330), which are often referred to in the literature as dative shift because they involve a dative noun phrase. Sections 3.3.2 and 3.3.3 continue with alternations involving accusative and nominative noun phrases, respectively, as in the (b) and (c)-examples.
