This section discusses the use of the noun phrase as a complementive (predicative complement of the verb) in predicative constructions such as the copular and vindenconsider constructions. We will first discuss the “normal” predicative use of noun phrases in Section 22.2.1, and continue in Section 22.2.2 with a discussion of the more special behavior of noun phrases denoting professions/social functions. Section 22.2.3 concludes with a discussion of examples such as Het/Dat zijn aardige jongensIt/That are nice boys, which are special in that a singular neuter pronoun can function as the logical subject of a plural nominal predicate.
