22.1.Noun phrases as arguments
quickinfo

Noun phrases are regularly used as arguments of the four lexical categories V, N, A, and P. This section focuses on their distribution as arguments of the verb, i.e. in the clausal domain. Section 22.1.1 begins with a discussion of the syntactic functions that noun phrases can have. This is followed in Sections 22.1.2 and 22.1.3 by a discussion of the restrictions on their placement in the clause-initial position (i.e. wh-movement) and in the middle field of the clause (i.e. A-scrambling). Section 22.1.4 contains a discussion of the restrictions on the distribution of noun phrases in expletive constructions.
